Distribution

The distribution system consists of approximately 750 miles of water main, most ranging from 4- to 20-inches in diameter. Wells are connected to the distribution system by 12-inch diameter water mains comprising loops that follow arterial roadways.  The arterial water mains feed smaller-diameter mains that serve residential neighborhoods.

The distribution system is comprised of 730.5 miles of pipe, 5,100 fire hydrants, and 52,641 services which are branch lines from the main to the customer's property line. Approximately 200,000 meter readings are taken annually, and billing is processed through the Finance Department. Revenue received from water bills finances the division's entire budget of $15.65 million.

Once water is brought to the homes, it is the responsibility of the resident to maintain the pipes.
